Bengkel Penulis Muda Johor 2008 - Muar

I love reading novels but I don't know anything about writing a novel. I had joined 'Bengkel Penulis Muda Johor 2008' in Muar last Tuesday. The workshop was organized by Kerajaan Negeri Johor. The Yayasan Warisan Johor (YWJ) and Universiti Teknologi Mara Johor were the joint organizers.

12:15pm - From Segamat by UiTM bus

01:30pm - Reached at Sri Pelangi Hotel, the venue of 'Bengkel Penulis Muda Johor 2008'

02:00pm - Registration & check in.

Took all the materials and schedule of the workshop.

04:30pm - Tea break

05:00pm - Workshop Briefing by Cik Zetty Raihan, Pegawai Pengembangan Ilmu YWJ.

The opening ceremony started at 8:30pm. Inauguration of the workshop was by Tuan Haji A Rahman Jaffar, District Officer of Muar. The first lesson started around 9:20pm. Session 1 was Penulisan Novel - Pengenalan by Aminah Mokhtar. She shared with us how to create the characters in a novel.

I like the way she treated the candidates. She is very courteous, motherly and her voice so soft BUT she was very emphatic to make the candidates cogitated.

07:45am - Cruising the Sungai Muar was the next activity after breakfast. I'm in the first group arrived at Jeti Tanjung Emas. As usual, I snapped few pictures while waiting for the other groups' arrival.

Pn Shima, acting as the boat crew. She pretended like a stewardess demonstrating how to use life jacket and show the emergency door to us. "Pintu kecemasan ada di kiri & kanan anda" said Ustaz Nawawi, our pilot.

Behind of me is Jambatan Pulau Pinang, the longest bridge in Malaysia. Hahaha... just kidding. Jambatan Muar Kedua.

Me - Diana

This is our Captain/Pilot - Ustaz Nawawi and our Stewardess/Co-pilot - Puan Shima. Ustaz doesn't have any fly or cruiser licence. He was an illegal Captain. "Ustaz bawa bot secara haram tanpa lesen. Err... macam tekong bawa PATI jer Ustaz. Hahaha...saya mau ke Dumai ya Pak. Bisa ngak bawain saya ke sana?"

10:45am - My group was the last to reach the hotel.

11:00am - The session 3 - Permasalahan & kekangan dalam proses penghasilan & sensitiviti sebagai penulis by 3 panels, Aminah Mokhtar, Nisah Haron and Zaid Akhtar. Their words fire-up my soul to write.

Nisah Haron is a fulltime writer and an ex-lawyer. She cogent me about writer's field. Interesting.

She wrote a short poem while cruising the Sungai Muar with us. She saw a butterfly flying beside the boat and got an idea to write something. She didn't bring any pen or paper. So, she used her handphone to type a poem. She's great and remarkable.

Zaid Akhtar is an Arabic teacher in Segamat. He is diffrent. Yeah, man thinks diffrently from a woman, BUT I like to read his novels.

5:00pm - Group Assignment. I'm in the group 1 with Ustaz Nawawi, Diana, Kak Roza, Wana, Farah, Farhana, Intan, Sasai & Firdaus. Our leader is En. Zaid Akhtar.

Aiyoo... I have some problem here. No idea how to create a novel. Children's novel? I'm in a blurred mood... Help!

8:30pm - Continue with the group assignment. At last, I'm done with my first book synopsis "Ulat Bulu" or "Beluncas". Err... just an idea not book synopsis actually.

8:00am - Presentation of our assignment. Ustaz Nawawi presented his.

9:00am - Session with Pengarah UiTM, Prof. Dr. Muhd Kamil Ibrahim.

12:00noon - Closing ceremony - bye-bye
